JOB DESCRIPTION: Qualifications • Knowledge of the ASCA model • The ability to forge relationships with parents and community agencies. • The ability to collaborate with parents and their caregivers, school administrators, teachers, and other members of the pupil services team. • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws. • Navigate the college admissions process. • Assist students in researching and selecting colleges that align with their career goals and interests. • Guide students through the college application process, including advising on college essays, recommendation letters, and standardized tests. • Provide information on financial aid and scholarship opportunities to students and families. • Strong background, experience, and knowledge in social emotional learning. • Experience assisting students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of standardized test scores, classroom data, and other data points. • Experience developing attendance plans, academic improvement plans, and behavioral plans. • Coordinates with administrators and other staff to ascertain individual student’s abilities and needs, including students with special needs and English language learners. • Knowledge of the role of a school counselor at CSE and 504 meetings. • Experience obtaining and disseminating information regarding occupational opportunities to students and to classes studying occupations. • Assists with the registration and orientation of students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunities. • Assists students in making course and subject selections, as well as with evaluating career interests and choices. • Assists students and families to secure summer learning, weekend, and after school learning opportunities. • Serves as a ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. • Plans and coordinates field trips to institutions of higher learning, businesses and other organizations related to guidance responsibilities. • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
