Reports to: Principal; Director of Performing & Visual Arts Performance Responsibilities:Plans, develops and carries out a quality program of sequential instruction aligned to National and State Core Arts Standards in music for elementary students, K-5.Provide opportunities for students to achieve in music through singing, playing melodic and rhythmic classroom instruments, and movement activities.Promotes the acquisition of music literacy and musicianship skills through traditional, Kodaly-Orff, Gordon, or Dalcroze methodologiesPrepares music assemblies for K-5 by grade levelPresents periodic evening concerts to the school and community featuring student performersMaintains appropriate records of student achievement for all students assigned to classes in the programCollaborates with departmental colleagues districtwide and within the assigned school to maintain and enhance the quality of music instructionCommunicates with parents/guardians of students regularlyFacilitates student participation in county, state, and national programs through WCSMA, NYSSMA, NAfME, and WCALA as appropriateWorks with building and district administration to develop appropriate achievement goals for students in each grade level or groupCollaborates with colleagues within and outside the arts department in the district on school or district initiatives.Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Performing and Visual Arts Qualifications:Holds New York State Certification in MusicDemonstrated excellence in teachingDemonstrated knowledge of musical repertoire appropriate for elementary school studentsSuperior organizational skillsUnderstands successful techniques for motivating elementary school studentsDemonstrated professional performance proficiency on a musical instrument or voiceDemonstrated performance proficiency on piano and voice NYS Certification is required at time of applicationEOE: Minority and Bilingual candidates are encouraged to applyPlease do not send resumes to Human Resources: They will not be accepted
