City School District of New RochelleEmbracing Diversity: Driving Success The City School District of New Rochelle is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual to lead the district's social-emotional and expanded learning for students, throughout the district, in grades Pre-K through 12.Position SummaryAs a key member of the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil & Student Support Services’ Leadership Team, the Director of Social Emotional and Expanded Learning will provide servant leadership and continuous direction toward ensuring that all students develop the social and emotional skills they need to succeed in school, and throughout the course of their lives. The selected candidate will lead an integrated approach the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive approach to Social Emotional Learning. They will work to support schools with the creation, expansion, seamless implementation, and evaluation of expanded learning opportunities for students in grades Pre-K through 12.This includes the addition of an expanded learning day, extended learning opportunities, access to tutoring services and leveraging external partnerships and community-based organizations; while ensuring alignment with our district-wide initiatives, identified priorities, and in full support of the whole child. The Social Emotional and Expanded Learning Director will work closely with building administrators, academic directors, and central office leadership team members to ensure that the Social Emotional Learning work throughout the district is embedded into classroom learning experiences/environments, each individual school’s culture and climate initiatives, and during extra-curricular and after-school/weekend programs across the City School District of New Rochelle.The Director of Social Emotional & Expanded Learning must possess internal motivation and passion for nurturing the social and emotional well-being of our students, be an advocate for ensuring students receive quality learning experiences beyond the school day and year, and demonstrate integrity, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn. The Director of Social Emotional and Expanded Learning must have the ability to effectively manage multiple projects with ease, be creative and innovative, and have very strong written and verbal skills.Supervisory RelationshipThis position reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services. Social Emotional Learning Essential Functions The Social Emotional and Expanded Learning Director will work to integrate the five Social Emotional Learning core competencies: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationships Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making into the daily routines and rituals of each respective school level, requiring special focus to developmentally appropriate material, content, and resources necessary to engage all students and stakeholders.? The Social and Emotional & Expanded Learning Director will ensure that SEL implementation happens consistently across school day, afterschool and summer learning programs, and that all adults supporting our students – from teachers to custodians to bus drivers to community partners – are engaged and recognized for their important role in the social and emotional well-being and development of students. The Social Emotional & Expanded Learning Director will lead the implementation of a district-wide anti-bullying program; guide the implementation of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), foster the inclusion of restorative practices, and build capacity with the integration of culturally responsive teaching and learning protocols. The Social Emotional and Expanded Learning Director will be responsible for the systemic implementation of the Social Emotional Learning program including the New York State Social Emotional Learning benchmarks/standards and will also provide support for building the social and emotional skills and competencies of adults within the district. The Social Emotional and Expanded Learning Director will support each school team with the MTSS Multi-Tiered Systems of Support process. Social Emotional Learning Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Remain current on the effective practices in social emotional learning, learning differences, and New York State Social Emotional Learning Benchmarks/Standards. Ensure alignment with the New York State Social Emotional Learning benchmarks/standards and will also provide support for building the social and emotional skills and competencies of adults within the school district. Oversee Social Emotional Learning practices and interventions to support students, faculty, and our district’s community members. Consult with school leadership teams concerning the social emotional learning needs of students and adults in order to identify the proactive measures needed, to support those requiring additional Social Emotional support. The Social Emotional and Expanded Learning Director will supervise, and support identified Social Emotional Learning Coordinators across the school district and convene and facilitate a school district team in support of designing / implementing a shared vision for SEL with a Pre-K-12 developmental sequence. Provide ongoing guidance on designing the integration and implementation of Social Emotional Learning within all of the schools across the district. Provide leadership, planning, coordination, and management to support the development of infrastructure that creates the conditions for educational equity for all students. Assess Social Emotional Learning curriculum and programs and measure their effectiveness with Social Emotional Learning assessment tools. Research and identify potential tools. Evaluate the impact (through an equity lens) of existing Social Emotional systems/programs on student achievement and their social-emotional learning needs. Design, implement, and supervise professional development to support the social emotional learning curriculum and implementation of instruction, using effective practices, including research on theory and content standards. Supervise ongoing adult Social Emotional Learning and professional learning experiences for school and district-wide staff. Apply for and execute grants to support the Social Emotional Learning initiatives across the district. Support proactive anti-bullying initiatives across the district. Maintain an operational budget and determine allocation of resources to support Social Emotional Learning initiatives. Forge partnerships with community stakeholders and community-based organizations to support Social Emotional Learning initiatives.Expanded Learning Essential Functions Lead a cross-functional district team to ensure efficient and effective delivery of all expanded learning programs are in place. Collaborate with school teams and community partners to design, implement, and evaluate expanded learning programs, including district-wide summer programs. Facilitate a local expanded learning steering committee including district, school (staff and students), and local community advisors. Engage students and families and community members to learn and respond to diverse community interests and needs.? Support school principals in the planning and implementation of expanded learning and school improvement plans to ensure alignment. Design, deliver, and evaluate professional learning opportunities for school and community staff who are planning or implementing expanded learning programs.? Develop, administer, supervise, and evaluate contracts and agreements with community providers for expanded learning and district-wide summer programs.? Work with communications team to promote support and community collaboration for expanded learning programs. Pursue grant opportunities and advocate for additional funding and support for expanded learning programs at the local, state, and federal level. Plan and coordinate expanded learning, after-school, and summer programs delivered with community partnerships. Align expanded learning strategies with multiple funding opportunities including Title I. Develop and manage budgets associated with the provision of expanded learning and summer programs. Coordinate with the Director of Guidance to design, implement, and support secondary expanded learning opportunities that focus on individualized learning plans, Regents preparation, and college and career readiness. Expanded Learning Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Support school principals in the planning and implementation of expanded learning and school improvement plans to ensure alignment of expanded learning programs with School Comprehensive Education Plans (SCEP) and School Improvement Grants/Plans. Coordinate with the Office of Curriculum and Instruction to provide professional learning opportunities that offer appropriate support for school data cycles, targeted teacher/support staff development, and differentiated student supports. Work with the Director of Pupil Personnel Services to ensure appropriate levels of student support services are integrated/embedded as part of a high-quality expanded learning program. Develop, administer, supervise, and evaluate contracts and memoranda of agreements with community providers for expanded learning and district-wide summer programs. Develop communication plans to promote support and community collaboration, including maintenance of the department website, release of quarterly newsletters, and school recruitment documents to highlight expanded learning and summer learning opportunities for community members to access. Use a data driven decision making process to develop, monitor, adjust, and evaluate current expanded learning programs. Align and, as necessary, redesign administrative policies and practices required for full implementation of the district’s vision. Maintain effective organization of fiscal, human, and material resources focused on the priority of student learning, safety, and in support of the whole child. Collaborate with staff, families, and community members to respond to diverse community interests and needs, while mobilizing community resources to support expanded learning initiatives. Demonstrate a deliberate focus on impartiality, sensitivity to student diversity, and ethical considerations in all interactions and decisions to support expanded learning across the district. Engage students, parents, members of the school board and other community members in advocating for continuous improvement in processes and policies. Demonstrate passion for continuous learning and enthusiasm for innovative thinking, data analysis and out-of-the-box problem-solving Minimum QualificationsMaster’s degree in education or applicable field, requiredNew York State, School District Leader (SDL) license, required Experience Minimum of four years of experience serving as a program, school, or district administrator. Minimum of four years of program or classroom teaching experience. Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective Social Emotional Learning principles, practices, and trends. Demonstrated knowledge of Social Emotional Learning curriculum, best practices in implementation of Social Emotional Learning, and a proven track record of success. Experience in leading anti-bullying initiatives to support students in serving as upstanders and advocates for themselves and others. Experience creating partnerships with community-based organizations and non-profit organizations. Experience developing and leading professional development learning opportunities for teachers and support staff.
