The Business Manager II is responsible for overseeing the business management and financial operations of a school district. Working within the financial and operational policies established by the Board of Education, this role exercises a high degree of independent judgment. The position requires strong administrative, financial, and leadership capabilities. Administers business operations in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Maintains responsibility for all financial records and accounts of the district. Develops, plans, and implements the district’s annual budget. Collaborates with the Board of Education, Superintendent, and district administrators on financial planning. Oversees procurement processes, including purchasing supplies, equipment, and contractual services. Supervises business office staff and ensures efficient day-to-day operations. Prepares and presents financial reports to the Board of Education as requested. May supervise custodial and cafeteria personnel. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Board of Education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of business administration practices and financial management systems. Strong understanding of accounting principles and budget development. Ability to analyze complex administrative and financial issues and develop effective solutions. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to lead, supervise, and evaluate staff. High level of professionalism, integrity, interpersonal skills, and discretion. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and dependability. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet the following requirements: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; AND one of the following: (A) Master’s degree in accounting, business administration, education, or a related field and six (6) years of business management or accounting experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory role; OR (B) Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, education, or a related field and eight (8) years of business management or accounting experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory role; OR (C) Associate’s degree in accounting, business administration, education, or a related field and ten (10) years of business management or accounting experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory role; OR (D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), or (C). Additional Information This is a competitive class position as defined by the Columbia County Civil Service Commission.
