QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Teaching CertificatePosition Overview: As a Middle School (MS) Counselor TOSA, your primary responsibility is to support and guide students through their academic, social, emotional, and personal development. You will work closely with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment. Your role is critical in helping students navigate challenges, make informed decisions, and reach their full potential.Key Responsibilities: SchedulingKnowledge of SchoolToolAbility to create a master schedule with NYS requirementsOrganizing state testing materials, scheduling, and accommodations, and creating a Master Schedule with NYS requirements- Group Counseling: - Organize and conduct group counseling sessions on topics such as study skills, conflict resolution, stress management, bullying prevention, etc. - Foster a safe and respectful environment for students to share experiences, develop empathy, and build social skills. - Collaborate with teachers to identify specific student groups that would benefit from targeted counseling. - Academic Support: - Collaborate with teachers and administrators to implement strategies to support student success. - Help students develop effective study habits, time management skills, and organizational strategies. - Create Master Schedule with guidance from the building principal and collaboration with the High School Guidance Counselor - Organize sixth-grade orientation with support from the building principal - Attend Team and Child Study Meetings - Collaborate with teachers and administrators to organize career fairs, college visits, and other career-related events. - Collaboration and Consultation: - Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop strategies for student success. - Attend team meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, and other relevant meetings to provide input and support. - Consult with teachers and parents to address student concerns, behavior issues, and academic challenges. - Serve as a resource for staff by sharing expertise and providing professional development on relevant topics. Qualifications and Skills: - NYS Teaching Certificate.- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with students, parents, and staff. - Ability to maintain confidentiality - Experience working with diverse student populations and addressing issues of equity and inclusivity. - Proficient in using counseling software, databases, and other technology tools. - Strong organizational skills to manage caseloads, maintain records, and meet deadlines. - Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students and the school community.
