Library Media 5-8 Primary Duties and Responsibilities: East Northport Middle School is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered Library Media Specialist for a full-time leave replacement position. The ideal candidate will create a welcoming and engaging library environment that fosters a love of reading, student inquiry, information and media literacy, digital citizenship, and purposeful technology integration across grades 5–8, as well as be an integral part of our Learning and Innovation Team by collaborating with instructional staff to support innovative teaching and learning. Instruction & Collaboration: Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in information literacy, media literacy, and digital citizenship. Maintains continuity of established library programs, initiatives, and projects while evaluating opportunities for continued growth and improvement with previously established collaborators. Collection & Resource Management: Maintain and curate an inclusive, diverse collection of print and digital resources that reflect student interests and support school curriculum goals. Provides guidance, assigns responsibilities, and works collaboratively with the library aide to meet the needs of students and staff. Technology & Digital Learning: Support students and staff in the effective and responsible use of research databases, digital resources, instructional technology, and emerging tools that enhance teaching and learning. Learning & Innovation: Collaborate with members of the Learning and Innovation Team and school staff to support creative, interdisciplinary, and technology-enhanced learning experiences. Library Environment: Maintain a supportive, collaborative, and creative space that encourages student inquiry, independent reading, and dynamic learning. Literacy & Reading Culture: Promote independent reading and a strong culture of literacy through book recommendations, displays, programming, and opportunities that connect students with diverse, high interest literature. Essential Skills and/or Experiences: Strong background in middle school curriculum, adolescent literature, and educational technology. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Required Certification(s): New York State Certification as a Library Media Specialist(K–12) (required) Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Studies (preferred) Effective approximately from 12/16/2026 to 4/1/2027 Application Procedure: Address all letters of interest and resumes to the attention of Anthony J.
