Title: Elementary Orchestra Teacher Start Date: August 28, 2024 Pay Scale: As per the NBTA Contract Description: North Bellmore is seeking a probationary orchestra teacher for students in grades 4-6. The candidate is expected to speak, act, and instruct students in a manner that is consistent with the District’s Core Values and Mission. Under the direction of the building principals and principal music liaison, successful candidates will plan, organize, and teach orchestra at the elementary level. An orchestra teacher is expected to teach students musicianship and performance activities while assisting them in reaching their full potential. The candidate must have solid knowledge of an orchestra curriculum in both music theory and performance, including concert orchestra, ensembles, and soloists. The orchestra teacher is responsible for assessment and evaluation of student’s abilities, strengths and weaknesses in the area of orchestra. Expectations: Utilizing a multi-faceted approach, develop and deliver instruction strategies that align with the state standards appropriate for the students’ orchestra level in both group and individual settingsEngage students in active and positive learningCreate lesson plans that incorporate a variety of musical areas, such as theory, history and compositionTeach students how to: play musical instruments, read music and understand its basic concepts, develop proper technique for their chosen instruments and understand the technical aspects of music and performanceEvaluate students’ progress and give feedback on their level of mastery and performancePlan, rehearse and conduct orchestra performances for concerts, extra-curricular activities, school events, district events and community eventsWork with individuals and ensembles of students who have interest pursuing opportunities to compete in LISFA or other organizations/festivalsTravel to accompany students to various competitions, rehearsals, performances and concertsResponsible for the care, upkeep and storage of all orchestra equipment and instruments Assess instruments for repair and replacement, proper care and cleaning, any needed repairs and storage of all orchestra equipmentMaintain a log of distributed and collected instrumentsServe as a positive role model for students at all timesAbility to develop a rapport with students to build trust and encourage their progress; a classroom environment where students feel safe and comfortable taking risks and exploring new ideas.Promote student achievement by effectively managing a classroom of diverse learners that fosters an environment that is both inviting and accepting to all studentsPossess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate with students, parents and colleaguesMaintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians, informing them of their student’s progress and addressing any concerns they may haveComply with and execute all safety and security protocols/procedures for the building and district Commit to continual professional growth Attend all required meetings and Professional Development Actively engage with the North Bellmore community in fulfilling its mission Requirements: NYS Certificate in Music EducationBachelor or Master of Music Instrumental, preferred by not requiredMinimum of 1-2 years orchestra teaching experience preferred by not requiredDemonstrated skill in playing multiple instruments as well as in-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of the instrumentsExcellent organizational, oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members??
