North Bellmore is seeking a probationary K-6 teacher to work with students, district-wide, in grades 3-6 who are part of the Alpha (gifted and talented) Program. The candidate is expected to speak, act and instruct students in a manner that is consistent with the District’s Core Values, Mission and Curricula areas. The candidate will be expected to provide identified gifted and talented students with appropriate learning experiences that develop potential and lead to advanced academic achievement. The Alpha teacher reports directly to the Director of Educational Programs and Staff Development, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Building Principal and/or designated Central Administrators. Expectations : Creates and/or implements programs/units of study that promote acceleration, depth, complexity, challenge and creativity Develops and monitors differentiated educational experiences for students (content, process and/or product) Provides instruction which enhances problem solving skills, divergent thinking skills, research skills, self-direction, self-esteem, and social responsibility Designs lessons to promote inquiry and critical thinking Implements curricula and activities to meet our high academic standards Assists in designing and implementing programs to discover and nurture academic potential in the students Provides materials and information to help create an environment that provides options for the exceptional needs of gifted students Supports individual students in selecting appropriate topics for independent investigation and monitors their progress Conducts individual or small group conferences with students Shares enrichment opportunities outside of the regular curriculum Prepares students for end-of-year, evening, culminating events/performances Creates a positive, structured learning environment to ensure that students observe the school’s core values, high expectations, and code of conduct Assists classroom teachers in differentiating instruction Creates and maintains a stimulating, engaging, and organized physical classroom environment Establishes and maintains positive relationships and interactions with students, families, colleagues and administration Communicates effectively with students, families, and colleagues Complies with and executes all safety and security protocols/procedures for the building and district Commits to continual professional growth Attends all required meetings and Professional Development Actively engages with the North Bellmore community in fulfilling its mission Requirements : NYS Certificate in General Education Grades K – 6, or N-6, or B-2 AND 1-6 Extension for Gifted Education, preferred, not required Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching, preferred, not required Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members Employment Term : This is a probationary position.
