Description: North Bellmore is seeking a proficient and creative Spanish Speaking Teacher dedicated to developing and teaching the Spanish Language to 5th and 6th grade students. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission and core values of North Bellmore Schools and a desire for working in a school setting that fosters a love for children. The candidate will work to provide highly- engaging and rigorous Spanish education that provides students with the knowledge, skills, creativity, self-motivation, social/emotional development, and academic excellence, as well as deepen students’ understanding and knowledge of Spanish. The teacher is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering instruction to our 5th and 6th grade students, across five buildings. The candidate will report directly to 5 building Principals and the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Expectations: -Teach a standards-based curriculum with the developmentally appropriate content and skills for beginner’s Spanish -Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials for 5th and 6th grade classes, once a cycle, and other grades as needed -Design the curriculum that challenges the learning ability of students and ensure overall development of language -Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and employs a variety of instructional techniques and media -Provide interactive and meaningful learning material to students -Implement and deliver quality instruction to students and execute the instructional program by demanding higher order thinking activities from students in a progressive manner -Prepare assignments and create innovative methods of teaching as per the students' varying learning styles -Have a pedagogy which is student-centered and differentiate instruction for speaking, listening, reading, and writing to meet the needs of learners -Incorporate the use of technology, as appropriate -Implement effective classroom management skills that build a classroom culture -Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students Conduct periodic assessments to measure student growth and progress -Regularly bring appropriate ‘real life' experience into their classroom and extend the classroom beyond the school walls into the neighborhood, city, and beyond -Actively participate in professional development and work collaboratively with colleagues and instructional leaders to improve instructional practices and student learning -Build meaningful and professional relationships with students, colleagues, and families -Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principals, Assistant -Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction or their designee(s) Requirements: -Appropriate New York State Spanish Middle Childhood (Grades 5-9) Certification, LOTE extension K-6, or equivalent -Fluent in Spanish -Prior teaching experience in an elementary school setting, preferred but not required -Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members Employment Term: This is a probationary position EOE Employer: The North Bellmore School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate in its employment decisions and practices on the basis of legally protected classes in accordance with Federal and State law.
