NORTH BABYLON UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCEMENT OF ANTICIPATED VACANCY- 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR Assistant Superintendent of Special Education & PPS This twelve month position begins on July 1, 2024. Salary for the position is commensurate with background and experience. Special Education leadership experience required, & appropriate NYS SDA/SDL certification required. North Babylon is a vibrant, culturally diverse community located less than 50 miles from New York City, with more than 17,000 residents. North Babylon is conveniently located along major highways and the Long Island Rail Road. The district has seven schools housing over 4,500 students. The North Babylon School District is seeking a dynamic leader looking to be a part of a collaborative, forward-thinking, strategic team to support the district in the areas of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services by supporting the vision, mission and core beliefs of the school district. The successful candidate should have a proven record of success as a leader, possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.Candidates Must:Have a child-centered philosophy, with proven ability as an academic leader and effective communicator;Have at least 3 years’ experience as a successful building or district administrator and as a teacher of special education or speech, school counselor, psychologist or social worker;Communicate and forge strong relationships with all members of the school community;Possess a strong understanding of the role of the CSE Chairperson and have experience leading CSE and 504 meetings and in successfully leading coordination of programs and curricula between and special education and mainstream areas;Interpret and apply current Federal and NYS Law and Commissioner’s Regulations regarding special education and student support services;Demonstrate current, accurate knowledge regarding CPSE and CSE regulations, effective IEP creation/monitoring/ implementation, and Alternative Assessments;Supervise staff and have strong knowledge of APPR regulations; Have experience with all special education programs, alternate placement options and service provider recruitment/oversight; Demonstrate ability to oversee special education budget, 611/619 grants and state reporting.Major Responsibilities Include: Administration of all programs related to pupil personnel, services including but not limited to special education, nursing, 504 plans, etc.; Supervise and evaluate the various professional, clerical support staff assigned to the Special Education program; Determine instructional personnel needs for special education and prepare staffing plan; Develop district guidelines and procedures to implement all special education laws and regulations; Provide district-wide evaluation, planning and implementation of all special education/special service programs and activities throughout the school year and summer;Supervise central registration; Prepare and present the proposed Special Education programs, student placements, and budget on an annual basis;Prepare reports for NYSED and other agenciesUse data and research to inform instruction and monitor programmatic shifts;Partner with central administration, principals, directors and coordinators to align programs, initiatives and instructional prioritiesMember of the Superintendent’s Cabinet Deadline for Application: Wednesday, April 10, 2024 In each District building, Title IX and 504 Grievance Procedures are available that provide for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging discrimination based upon gender or disability.Equal Opportunity Employer.
