The Mount Vernon City School District is seeking interested applicants to fill a vacancy for a Provisional Purchasing Agent with the Business Office. The Purchasing Agent performs a variety of tasks associated with purchasing materials, supplies, equipment and does related work as required for the Mount Vernon Board of Education. This position requires the ability to analyze bids and keen judgment as errors could result in the loss of large sums of money. The Purchasing Agent prepares purchase contracts; generates correspondences concerning bids, requisitions and order cancellations; price changes and adjustments; maintains catalogue files and price lists. The ideal applicant MUST hold a Bachelor ‘s Degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered College/University in Accounting, Business/Public Administration, Economics or a closely related field and have one year of experience with large scale purchasing. OR MUST hold an Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered College/University in Accounting, Business/Public Administration, Economics or a closely related field and have three years of experience with large scale purchasing. OR MUST have a High School Diploma/GED and five years of experience with large scale purchasing. The Provisional Purchasing Agent MUST successfully pass the Civil Service Exam for the title, Provisional Purchasing Agent and be reachable on the certified eligible list to retain the position.
