The Mount Pleasant Central School District in Thornwood, New York is seeking a full time 12 month non-competitive Custodial Worker/Groundskeeper. Responsibilties incude:Custodial Duties: 50%-Building cleaning - Sweeps, mops, cleans, strips floors, waxes floors, washes walls and windows,dusts, cleans desks, woodwork, furniture and other equipment. Performs other cleaning duties.- Cleans and stock bathrooms, locker rooms and break rooms.- Empties trash and recycling receptacles.- Set up rooms for events and move furniture and equipment as needed.- Performs other custodial duties as requested.- Makes minor repairs to furniture, windows and shades, locks, faucets, lights, heating system andother equipment.- Performs minor electrical repairs including replacing light bulbs, switch plates or ballasts.- Performs routine maintenance tasks to building maintenance systems (ie. changing filters, etc.)Groundskeeping Duties:50%-Mows, reseeds, rolls, waters and fertilizes lawns and athletic fields, including artificial turf repair andmaintenance.-Maintains plantings including trimming hedges, trees and shrubs. Removes leaves and maintainsplanting beds.- Helps oversee contractors hired to help with grounds maintenance.-Operates and maintains grounds maintenance equipment.- Removes snow and ice from sidewalks and driveways.-Maintains black top surfaces via patching and painting.-Maintains gutters and catch basins.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES: Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and the ability to use them economically and efficiently; working knowledge of the accepted procedures and practices of grounds maintenance work; familiarity with the operation and maintenance of heating systems; ability to make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs and perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks; ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions; ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position; willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks; willingness to work outside during inclement weather; thoroughness; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Either: (a) one (1) year experience in cleaning; or (b) one (1) year experience in grounds maintenance work.Position is from Tuesday through Saturday weekly.
