Malverne UFSD is seeking a dynamic educator for a .5 FTE position to deliver engaging, age-appropriate Social Studies instruction to students in grades K–2. This role will consist of half-day teaching and half-day building-based coverage. This position will run through the end of the school year. The successful candidate will focus on developing a foundational understanding of communities, citizenship, history, and geography, while building students’ critical thinking, communication, and inquiry skills through storytelling, primary sources, visual media, and interactive learning experiences. REQUIREMENTS: Experience working with primary-grade students Strong understanding of elementary Social Studies instruction and early childhood development Ability to design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons for young learners Appropriate NYS Certification RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach foundational Social Studies concepts aligned with the New York State Social Studies Framework for grades K–2 Foster curiosity and critical thinking through inquiry-based and discussion-based lessons Help students understand communities, rules, civic responsibility, and respect for diverse perspectives Build vocabulary, listening comprehension, and early research skills through Social Studies topics Collaborate with classroom teachers to align instruction with literacy standards and school-wide goals Support foundational reading and writing development using informational texts, historical stories, and simple research tasks
