EFFECTIVE DATE2023-24 School Year POSITION Athletic Trainer STATUSProbationaryQUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTSa) Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine or health related field from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university.b) New York State Certificate with SED in Athletic Training and possess or in process of obtaining New York State License. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSa) Possession of a National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification certification at the time of application.b) Current First Aid/AED certification.c) 3 years experience as an athletic trainer.LOCATIONDistrictDUTIESCommunicates with the Nurse Practitioner and building level nurses and on all athletic injuries/ illness, concussions and works in conjunction with the nursing staff, in order to facilitate the student athlete’s needsResponsible for providing direction and assistance to the scholar athletes and their coaches to maintain performance with minimal risk of injuryActs as the liaison between the school, scholar, parents, and family physiciansMaintains appropriate treatment orders, emergency action plans, and policy and procedure manual to be reviewed annually.Provide direct instruction on the prevention of injuries to scholar athletes and coaches Advise scholar athletes and coaches on appropriate training techniques, strength-training programs, injury management and nutrition educationMaintain health records on scholar athletes and related dataSupervise the training roomProvide first aid, CPR and coordinates emergency transportation, as necessaryConducts initial evaluation following an injury and makes a decision regarding management of the injuryServes as a liaison between the families, scholar athletes, coaches, physicians and other healthcare professionalsRefers scholar athletes and/or families to appropriate physicians, as requiredMonitors the healing progress of injuries and reintegration scholar athlete into activities as appropriateCollaborates with physicians in order to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuriesApplies appropriate physical therapy, as allowed by law, and/or conditioning for the rehabilitation of an athletic injuryMaintains an inventory and determines the need for athletic training equipment, supplies,and maintenance servicesMaintains medical kits, ice and hydration for practices and competitions.Works with District Athletic Director to maintain the annual budget for athletic training supplies and equipmentProvides coaches, scholar athletes, parents, school staff with information regarding sound health habits and injury care and prevention practicesEstablishes and implements detailed records on scholar athletes, including incident report forms prepares reports, as requiredAssists with informing coaches as to participation level of an injured athlete and/or when they may resume full participation in athletic activitiesEvaluates athlete’s readiness to participate and provide clearances when necessary and warrantedDetermines the need of a scholar athlete receiving joint or muscular support and performs the necessary wrapping/ taping, to enable the athletes return to functional athletic performanceServes as a consultant in determining the scholar athlete qualifications for participation in particular athletic programs. “Advanced Placement Process”Serves as a member of the Concussion Management Team for the DistrictAttends training events and/ conferences as required or needed to establish and/or maintain proficiency and continuing education creditsAssists with the athletic training coverage of games, practices and events as requiredAssists with the athletic training covering multiple sports and athletes ranging from modified, JV and varsityExpected to work Holidays and weekends, as needed, based upon the athletic schedulePerform other administrative and athletic job related duties as directed by the Athletic Director Coordinate with the Athletic Director to ensure that all athletic events are covered by the appropriate health care professionalsCustomary duties associated with the positionSALARYPursuant to the Middletown Teachers Association (MTA) ContractAPPLICATION PROCEDUREApply through OLAS - https://www.olasjobs.org/ OR eMail resume, cover letter, certification, and all applicable transcripts, to: humanresources@ecsdm.orgApplication can be completed in-person at 223 Wisner Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940FINGERPRINT CLEARANCECandidates must submit to fingerprint clearance.The Enlarged City School District of Middletown is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate against age, race, religion, ethnicity, color, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or protected veteran status in its hiring, educational programs and activities it operates.
