VACANCY NOTICE DATE: October 24, 2024 POSITION TITLE: School Resource Officers ASSIGNMENT: Districtwide (3 positions)- Mexico Elementary School- New Haven Elementary School- Palermo Elementary School JURISDICTIONAL CLASS: Civil Service - Competitive Class START DATE: As Soon As Possible SALARY: $55,000 - $60,000 per year JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a security position serving as a public safety specialist, community liaison, and positive role model for the Mexico Academy and Central School District. A partnership between this position and the school community is desired in order to create and maintain a setting that is safe and secure with a focus on prevention and early intervention activities. The School Resource Officer will assist in implementing the district’s code of conduct for students through cooperation with school officials. Employee works under the direct supervision of the School Principal with administrative supervision provided by the District Superintendent. Supervision is not a regular function of the position but may be assigned to direct other employees in providing campus security. The incumbent does related work as required. May perform other job duties under the direction of the School Principal and/or the District Superintendent. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be legal residents of Oswego County for a minimum of four (4) months immediately preceding the date of the exam. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education, specialized background, training and experience. A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with an associate’s degree in criminal justice or closely related field and two (2) years of experience as a law enforcement officer, one (1) year of which must have been in a school setting working directly with children; OR B. Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience as a law enforcement officer, one (1) year of which must have been in a school setting working directly with children; OR C. An equivalent combination of experience and training as defined by the limits of “A” and “B”above. D. Certification and experience with Stop the Bleed Program strongly preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid NYS Class D license at time of appointment. In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check. Appointees may be required to meet the requirements of the Security Guard Act of 1993.
