ANTICIPATED VACANCY NOTICE DATE: November 21, 2023 POSITION TITLE: Audio-Visual Specialist CURRENT ASSIGNMENT: Districtwide (Technology Department) CERTIFICATION: Civil Service - Competitive Class START DATE: December 2023 POSITION CLASS DEFINITION:Essential nature of work, degree of difficulty and responsibility. Installs, maintains and repairs a variety of audio-visual/electronic/computer equipment in a school district; does related work as required. This is a responsible position requiring the performance of highly skilled technical and electronic work in the installation, maintenance and repair of audio-visual/electronic/computer equipment. Direct supervision is received from a higher level administrator. Incumbent may exercise general supervision over Audio-Visual Repairer and personnel or student aides. PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:Typical activities characteristic of the class. -- Maintains audio-visual, television and electronic equipment owned by the school district including a variety of projectors, tape recorders, record players, language masters, screens, jack boxes, TV antennas and wiring systems, TV monitors video-recorders and players, video cameras and TV/radio transmitters;-- Designs and installs television distribution and antenna systems and performs preventative maintenance and repairs on these systems;-- Maintains personal computer equipment owned by the school district including monitors, keyboards, drive unit, printers and other related equipment;-- Trains and helps supervise apprentice personnel or student aides;-- Maintains service record of repairs and prepares monthly status reports on equipment being serviced, including billing information;-- Maintains supply of parts, manuals, schematics and general supplies as necessary and within budget limitations;-- Records, duplicates and edits videotapes for distribution or supervises others in this duty;-- Provides technical assistance and/or in-service training to instructors or staff members for local productions or use of related equipment;-- Initiates purchase requisitions for ordering needed parts, and conducts pre-order or follow-up communications with vendors;-- Helps develop technical specifications for equipment being purchased;-- Keeps abreast of the audio-visual and electronic industry and advises higher level administrators of technological advances or relevant changes within the industry;KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Summary of full performance level characteristics. THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF: the principles and practices of electronic technology as applied to trouble-shooting procedures, preventative maintenance, repairs, electronic circuitry including transistorized and integrated circuits, and electronic test equipment. GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF: the repair and maintenance of a variety of audio-visual equipment; the repair and maintenance of personal computers and related equipment; the tools, terminology and safety precautions involved in projection and sound equipment maintenance and repair. ABILITY TO: read and interpret circuit diagrams and schematics; design or modify simple circuits; design and service TV wiring and antenna systems; service personal computers; isolate electronic malfunctions quickly and accurately; follow written and oral instructions; maintain inventory; maintain records; prepare reports; supervise the work of others. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education, specialized background, training and experience. A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in audio-visual communications technology, electronic or electrical technology, audio-visual equipment repair technology, computer science or closely related field; OR B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with an associate’s degree in audio-visual communications technology, electronic or electrical technology, audio-visual equipment repair technology, computer science or closely related field and two (2) years of experience in electronic technology; OR C. Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience in electronic technology; OR D. An equivalent combination of training and experience as described by the limits of “A”, “B” and “C” above.
