Behavior Support Teaching Assistant With a population of approximately 300 students, Menands Union Free School District is a unique Pre-K-8th grade school. We are a very supportive school community, and work collaboratively to meet the diverse needs of our students in a nurturing environment. Menands School is accepting applications for a full-time Behavior Support TA. Under the direction of the Coordinator of Pupil Personnel Services and the Support Services team, the Behavior Support TA will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to assist students in reducing challenging behaviors that impede learning. This position will play a pivotal role in planning and supporting the implementation of tiered behavioral strategies, fostering student engagement, and supporting safe, inclusive learning environments. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while reinforcing positive behavioral and academic outcomes. Key Responsibilities: • Assist in planning and implementation of one-to-one or small group behavior interventions to students • Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher • Collect and record behavioral data aligned to student goals, including observations and progress monitoring • Recognize environmental factors that influence student behavior and support implementation of appropriate interventions • With supervision, assist with developing, implementing, and monitoring behavior management systems • Support students using behavior management strategies, including de-escalation techniques and proactive interventions • Communicate, collaborate and consult with teachers, support services team, and school administration to support individual student needs • Respond to behavioral incidents using trained techniques that prioritize safety and respect for student dignity • Monitor students across settings to maintain a safe and positive learning environment • Participate in ongoing training related to behavior management and crisis response • Maintain student confidentiality at all times, including student records and information as required under FERPA Interested candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 3+ years of experience working with students with challenging behaviors.
