GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Vocational Teacher will support The Martin De Porres School for Exceptional Children by adhering to our mission (To educate children experiencing emotional and behavioral problems) our vision (Through education, every child entrusted to our care will have the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential) and our core value of respect, integrity, leadership and service.The Vocational Teacher is responsible for vocational instruction adapted to meet the needs of all of our special needs students on the elementary, middle and high school age levels. The Vocational Teacher must work collaboratively with the special education teachers to modify and incorporate vocational training in lessons in the various subject areas when applicable to student development. The Vocational Teacher must have a keen understanding of students’ disabilities as per their IEPs and modify instruction to meet their needs. The Vocational Teacher will monitor students’ in-school vocational training, student stipends, and in-house job assignments. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Work with special needs students at the Elementary, Middle, and High School age level as identified by school administration in consultation with classroom teachersMaintain a working knowledge of each student's Individual Education Plan who will receive vocational instruction/training Provide targeted vocational instruction/training for students identified by school administration in consultation with classroom teachersProvide professional development training activities to classroom teachers on ways to modify instructional practices to enhance students’ vocational knowledge and readinessProvide curriculum feedback to the school's Supervising Teacher that is sensitive to special needs students with regards to the vocational instruction in the classroomAttend IEP annual review meetings as identified by school administration for specificstudentsProvide a short written summary for distribution to parents with regards to the progress of students who are in the vocational training program, and or in-house job assignmentsand all other job related duties as assigned by the Martin de Porres School administration SUPERVISES:StudentsInternsQUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:NYS Teacher Certification as a Vocational Teacher or Vocational Instructor EXPERIENCE:Minimum of 3 years experience as a Vocational Teacher / InstructorMinimum of 2 years experience working with special needs students on the Elementary, Middle, or High School age level or work with special needs students outside of a school setting SKILLS & ABILITIES:Demonstrated ability to work with a learning disabled Elementary, Middle, or High School student populationsDemonstrated ability at understanding IEP mandates Demonstrated ability to provide vocational professional development training and activities for school staff as well as parents and guardians of our special needs studentsDemonstrated ability to modify vocational mandates of general curriculum to students with disabilitiesDemonstrated ability to effectively communicate with, students, school staff, and parentsDemonstrated ability to effectively write reports on students receiving vocational servicesDemonstrated ability to assist parents and guardians in understanding the academicneeds of their children and developing ways for them to influence home activitiesthat will enhance academic growth====================================================================This position description contains the major responsibilities required to perform this job.
