GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The School Psychologist provides counseling services to students according to the mandates found on each student's Individualized Education Plan. The school psychologist provides professional development opportunities; training and classroom support to school staff to assist them in their understanding and treatment of our special needs students. The school psychologist performs standard psychological evaluations using the most current protocols.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Conduct student progress meetings along with teachers, teacher assistants and social workers, at least once a month and keep a written log of minutes of the meeting on each studentPrepare a written summary of the initial case record on each new student enrolled in Martin De Porres School.Participate in weekly Student Support Team MeetingsPrepare psychological assessments, updates, memos on individual students as needed for referral purposes or as requested by the School PrincipalUndertake counseling sessions as requested to meet student IEP mandatesProvide classroom support and staff development in the areas of: management of emotionally disturbed adolescents, behavior management skill development, observational techniques, classroom management, appropriate adult interactions, psychotropic medicationsAssist social workers with more sophisticated outside agency linkagesTrain clinical staff on how to do a Behavioral Intervention PlanTrain clinical staff on how to do a Functional Behavioral AnalysisAssist with the intake screening process for new studentsInterpret IQ data and scoring rubricsAttend and assist with annual review meetings held with the Committee on Special EducationProvide treatment suggestions for the more behaviorally challenged adolescents at the Martin De Porres SchoolProvide parent support opportunities and activitiesRun select parent training groups on a short term basisRun Anger Management groups as requested by the School PrincipalAnd all other job related duties as assigned by the Martin de Porres School administrationSUPERVISES:Psychology InternsQUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:Master's Degree Required, related experience preferredNYS School Psychologist License EXPERIENCE:Minimum of 1 year experience working in a school program for special needs students or in another work environment with similar adolescents SKILLS & ABILITIES:Demonstrated ability to prepare and run professional staff development programDemonstrated ability to work effectively with special needs adolescentsDemonstrated ability to work with parents / guardians of special needs adolescentsDemonstrated ability to work effectively in a school programDemonstrated ability to write, analyze, critique student case record informationDemonstrated ability to work with classroom staffDemonstrated ability to understand and then communicate future student educational and treatment needsDemonstrated ability to perform standard psychological testing protocolsDemonstrated ability to work effectively with outside mental health providersDemonstrated ability to assist parents and guardians in understanding the academic needs of their children and developing ways for them to influence home activities that will enhance academic growth====================================================================
