RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, prepare and deliver culturally responsive and relevant lesson plans using instructional materials that facilitate active learning and engagement Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs Communicate with the Instructional Support Team and parents regarding student progress and areas for growth Utilize relevant technology and instructional materials to support and differentiate instruction Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with colleagues Encourage family involvement in each student’s education, and ensure effective communication with students and families Promote a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, and affirming for all students Work in a collaborative teaching environment, including co-teaching and interdisciplinary planning Communicate effectively orally and in writing Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of appropriate New York State Special Education Teacher Certification (Special Education K-12, Special Education Permanent, SWD 7-12, AND Subject Area Certification) Middle School teaching experience is preferred Dual certification in Math or Science strongly preferred Bilingual (Spanish-English) is strongly preferred Strong classroom management skills, inclusive of establishing a highly supportive, structured environment with clear and consistent expectations and a positive reinforcement system Knowledge of high leverage special education practices and specially designed instruction Experience with IEP development - writing goals, progress monitoring and identification/implementation of accommodations Experience in ICT and/or Resource Room settings In depth knowledge of social emotional learning (SEL) approaches and experience in implementing SEL to cultivate a classroom that is affirming and welcoming Thorough knowledge of the NYS Learning Standards Demonstrated knowledge of NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Frameworks Ability to analyze data to improve instructional practice and student learning outcomes Ability to engage in self-reflection with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunities REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Special Education Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
