RESPONSIBILITIES:Teach and conduct a comprehensive high school band program including: 9–12 Concert Band (Level 4–5); Intermediate Jazz Band; Advanced Jazz Band (Level 6); Percussion Ensemble; Drumline; Pep Band; Musical Pit Orchestra; Sectional lessons and small-group instructionPlan, prepare, and deliver sequential, well-paced, and rigorous instruction that promotes musical literacy, technical proficiency, and artistic expressionDirect advanced HS Jazz Band including preparation for school, community, regional and national festivals, competitions, and adjudicated performancesInspire, recruit, attract, and retain student musicians across all ensemblesPrepare Pep Band and Drumline ensembles for school and community events including community paradesPlan, organize, and execute performance trips and experiential learning opportunitiesInvite and collaborate with guest artists, clinicians, and conductors to enrich student learningSet goals and performance benchmarks that maintain and advance the overall quality of the band programUtilize music technology and instructional tools to enhance rehearsal efficiency and student engagementCommunicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress, program goals, and performance expectationsWork collaboratively as a team player within the music department and broader school communitySupport students with diverse needs through inclusive and differentiated instructional practices while fostering a classroom and rehearsal environment that is safe, welcoming, affirming, and disciplined.Meet all professional responsibilities and requirements of the school, district, and New York State POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:Successful teaching and conducting experience at the high school levelExtensive knowledge of all band instruments, band repertoire, and band pedagogyProven experience teaching concert band, advanced jazz ensembles, percussion, and drumline ensemblesStrong musicianship and commitment to developing high levels of music literacyExperience preparing students for festivals, competitions, and community performancesStrong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to plan trips, and large-scale performancesDemonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students while fostering teamwork and disciplineStrong technology and music technology skills, including the use of notation software and Google ClassroomPossession of appropriate New York State Music Teacher CertificationREPORTS TO: Building Principal, Assistant Principal, Director of Performing Arts Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
