JOB DESCRIPTION:The ENL/Literacy AIS position is a shared position, providing integrated instruction in support of meeting state and federal standards of ELL instruction for students K-5, while also providing small-group, targeted instruction to students who have not met proficiency benchmarks in literacy, in grades K-1. The teacher uses diagnostic and formative assessments to develop individualized plans for instruction. S/he uses research-based instructional strategies to remediate gaps in students’ skills and conceptual understanding. The ENL/Literacy AIS teacher is responsible for direct and close communication with classroom teachers, other service providers, administrators, and parents/guardians.RESPONSIBILITIES:Plan, prepare, and deliver culturally responsive lesson plans and instructional materials that meet state and federal ELL standards, facilitate active learning, and engage students.Provide consistent and coordinated instruction within the district’s/school’s ELL program to ensure students meet and exceed learning targets.Employ varied instructional techniques and strategies to address different learning styles, aptitudes, and interests.Address all aspects of communication—reading, writing, speaking, and listening—within appropriate content areas.Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to support an orderly and productive classroom environment.Conduct ongoing academic and language assessments to monitor progress in both content knowledge and language acquisition; adjust instruction based on results.Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth.Communicate effectively—both orally and in writing—with the Instructional Support Team, parents, and families regarding student progress and areas for growth.Utilize relevant technology and instructional materials to support and differentiate instruction.Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.Encourage family involvement in students’ education and maintain strong school–home communication.Promote a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, and affirming for all students.Collaborate effectively with colleagues, including in co-teaching and interdisciplinary planning settings.Uses research-based diagnostic and formative assessments to inform instruction.Conducts running records; analyzes miscues, fluency, and comprehension; uses results to inform instruction. Uses summative assessments to measure and communicate student progress. Maintains electronic records of intervention services and student progress data. Knows format and specifications of NYS ELA tests. Uses data warehouses to interpret student data for program review and instructional planning. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: In-depth knowledge of social-emotional learning approaches and experience in implementing SEL to cultivate an affirming and welcoming classroom.Thorough knowledge of the NYS Regulations Concerning English Language Learners and Multilingual Learners.Reading Recovery Certificate DesirableKnowledge of updated research and best practices in the instruction of English language learners.Demonstrated knowledge of NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Frameworks.Ability to analyze data to improve instructional practice and student learning outcomes.Ability to self-reflect on performance and professional growth; actively seek professional learning opportunities. Possession of appropriate New York State Teacher Certification. REPORTS TO: Building PrincipalCOMPENSATION: Long Term Substitute pay is $250/Day.
