RESPONSIBILITIES: Obtain and coordinate community resources to meet students' and family’s needs.Coordinate with community social and mental health agencies to bring needed support to schools Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the system responds effectively to each child's needs.Provide staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s performance and behavior.Assess students with mental health concerns.Develop staff in-service training programs to address identified needs in each school.Provide direct support to teachers and staff to support improved student performance.Provide crisis intervention, as needed.Assist with conflict resolution and anger management.Help students develop appropriate social interaction skills.Assist students in understanding and accepting self and others.Participate in the special education assessment process and meetings, as needed.Prepare a social or developmental history on a child with a disability or potential disability.Counseling (group, individual and/or family)Work with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment.Assist parents to access programs available to students with special needs.Assist parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources.Communicate effectively orally and in writing.Meet professional education requirements of school, district and state.Other duties as assigned by the school and district leadership team. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: In depth knowledge of social emotional learning (SEL) approaches and experience in implementing SEL to cultivate a school that is affirming, inclusive, and welcoming.Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and intervention strategies to support the social, emotional, and mental health of students and their families. Ability to engage in self-reflection with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunities.Bilingual English-Spanish is strongly preferredPossession of appropriate New York State School Social Worker Certification.
