The class focuses on basic literacy and math skills, daily living skills, social skills, and sensory integration. RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, and affirming for all studentsProvide direct instruction and in-the-moment coaching in academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and self-regulation skills. Effectively use tools and systems to progress monitor all aspects of the students’ learning. Facilitate positive behavior reinforcement and classroom management systems.Work collaboratively with teachers, related services providers, support staff, and parents on behalf of student success. Differentiate lesson plans within the special class environment, utilizing relevant technology and instructional materials. Offer Consultant Teacher services to a small group of students. Participate in CPSE evaluations and assessments. IEP Development including assessment, goals, modifications, and accommodations POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Strong understanding of positive behavior reinforcement systems and task analysisKnowledge of high-leverage special education practicesExperience with IEP development - writing goals, progress monitoring, and identification of modifications/accommodationsStrong communication skills In-depth knowledge of social-emotional learning approaches and experience in implementing SEL to cultivate a classroom that is affirming and welcomingPossession of appropriate New York State Teacher Certification REQUIREMENTS: NYS Birth - 6th Grade Special Education REPORTS TO: Building Principal Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
