RESPONSIBILITIES:Plans, develops and delivers a quality program of sequential instruction aligned to National and State Core Arts Standards in music for elementary students, K-5.Provide opportunities for students to achieve in music through singing, playing melodic and rhythmic classroom instruments, and movement activities; including recorder, ukulele, and keyboard curricular focus.Promotes the acquisition of music literacy and musicianship skills through traditional methodologies (Kodaly-Orff, Conversational Solfege, Dalcroze, etc.) Prepares 4th and 5th grade students for winter and spring evening concerts, graduation and schoolwide assemblies. Maintains appropriate records of student achievement for all students Collaborates with departmental colleagues districtwide and within the assigned school to maintain and enhance the quality of music instructionCommunicates with parents/guardians of students regularlyFacilitates student participation in county, state, and national programs through WCSMA and NYSSMA POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:Holds New York State Certification in MusicDemonstrated excellence in teachingDemonstrated knowledge of choral repertoire appropriate for elementary school studentsUnderstands successful techniques for motivating elementary school studentsDemonstrated performance proficiency on piano and voice REPORTS TO: Building PrincipalEthnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
