The successful candidate must possess excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills; knowledge of best practices in instructional delivery methods; a command of the NYS and Federal special education and Section 504 regulations; a strong commitment to working collaboratively with parents, staff and students towards the improvement of instruction and service delivery. The successful candidate will:Demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience in the CSE process and proceduresSupervise special education programs and/or placements, conduct observations and evaluations. Supervise special education teachers, clinicians, and teaching assistants in conjunction with building principalsWork collaboratively with administrators regarding decisions about special education and Section 504 supports and servicesCommunicate and implement CSE & Section 504 decisions Communicate regularly with parents /guardiansReview referralsSupport the district’s Response to Intervention processRequest and supervise evaluations, as neededOrganize, implement, and supervise summer programs for extended school year studentsSupervise clerical staff responsible for managing IEPs for secondary studentsProvide professional development to staff as neededWork as part of a strong SE administrative team to ensure the smooth provision of special education servicesPerform other duties as assigned by the Director for Special Education and/or the Assistant Director for Special Education.
