POSITION EFFECTIVE DATE30-hr/wk Teaching Assistant [Secondary] 10-monthQUALIFICATIONS:Must have a valid Teaching Assistant Certification or NYS certification as a teacher.DESCRIPTION: General support of the academic classroom teacher.Able to relate to children and adults.Ability to take directives from adults and follow directions well. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and colleagues.Ability to speak clearly and write legibly.Be responsible and confidential. Be able to twist, bend and lift 40 pounds or more.Be knowledgeable and sensitive to needs of a diverse student body, including students with disabilities. RESPONSIBILITIES:Follows directions given by head teacher.Communicates with the teacher important information about students that will assist in the development of appropriate academic assistance.Works with individual students or groups of students on instructional projects as directed by a teacher or administrator.Assists students in the use of available instructional resources.Assists in the preparation of instructional materials and technology.Assists in providing adult supervision of individual or small groups during instructional activities.Supervises groups of students being responsible for their whereabouts and activities.Helps teachers in carrying out various activities that lead to the emotional, intellectual and social development of children.Maintains confidentiality about students, their families, and other employees outside the school.Performs other position-related duties assigned by the building principal.Attends faculty and district meetings.Attends workshops as required by the building principal.
