A priority substitute works in tandem with a Special Education teacher to monitor, assist, and provide support for students with special needs to implement the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Duties/responsibilities listed below are performed under the direction of a special education teacher. This includes, but is not limited to: Provide appropriate support to students under the direction of a special education teacher. Communicate and document student progress. Implement and adapt materials, equipment, and assistive devices for use by student(s) as directed. Facilitate student progress toward independence as appropriate. Monitor and assist students during educational and recreational activities. Monitor and assist students in meeting IEP goals and objectives. Assist students with classroom accessibility.
