REQUIREMENTS: NYS Certification: Music (K-12)RESPONSIBILITIES:The Secondary School Music Orchestra Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive and engaging orchestra program for secondary school students. This includes directing and conducting the school's 6-12 orchestras, providing small group lesson instruction on various string instruments, and preparing students for performances, competitions, and festivals. Instruction and Curriculum: Develop and deliver a comprehensive curriculum that covers music theory, music history, sight-reading, and performance techniques for a variety of string instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass). Provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students with varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced players. Select and arrange appropriate musical repertoire for the orchestra, considering the abilities and interests of the students.Rehearsal and Performance: Conduct daily rehearsals with the school orchestra, fostering a positive and disciplined learning environment. Organize and direct school concerts and other performances throughout the year. Collaborate with other music teachers and school staff to support school-wide events, concerts, and assemblies.Program Management and Administration: Manage the orchestra budget, including the purchase of instruments, music, and other supplies. Maintain and inventory school-owned instruments, ensuring they are in good working condition. Communicate regularly with parents, providing updates on student progress, performance schedules, and program activities. Recruit and retain students for the orchestra program, working with the elementary music teacher to do so.Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in music education and performance. Participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, and conferences. Collaborate with colleagues and professional organizations to share knowledge and resources.QUALIFICATIONS: Experience teaching music and conducting secondary school orchestra is preferred. Proficiency on the string instruments. Strong knowledge of music theory, and a wide range of orchestral repertoire. Proven leadership, organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students. Understanding of modern teaching techniques and use of classroom technologies. Proven ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and partner with students & parents in the learning process. Highly skilled in differentiating instruction to personalize learning to meet the diverse needs of all students.START: September 2, 2025 SALARY: According to the LVSEA Teachers Contract
