The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a Special Education High School (Life Skills) Teacher - Probationary to join our team in providing a safe, nurturing and challenging classroom environment devoted to helping all students reach their full potential. Duties and Responsibilities:The Special Education Teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum.Develop and design lesson plans and assignments in support of students IEPs.Modifies existing instructional plans as necessary to accommodate individual students’ special needs.Build relationships with students and their families through regular communication on IEP progress and feedback.Assist students with developing problem solving, motor and social skills needed to complete their education and live independent lives. They may work with their students on personal and life skills in addition to academic curriculum and advancement.Working with students individually if they need extra help and support.Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.Assess, evaluate and track student performance and ongoing progress.Develop new ideas and concepts through a variety of strategies to help students uncover new ideas of their own.Modifies existing instructional plans as necessary to accommodate individual students’ special needs.Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.Start Date and Benefits:Anticipated start date of Sep 3, 2024. Benefits are in accordance with the LVSEA Teachers contract. Qualifications:Experience working in High School Special Education (Life Skills preferred). Knowledge of NYS Special Education law.Experience with ABA.Proven leadership, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students.Understanding of modern teaching techniques and use of classroom technologies.Training and Education:Valid NYS Certification in Special Education; Secondary Life Skills ProgramSalary:In accordance with the LVSEA Teachers contract.Interested Candidates:Submit a cover letter, resume and 2 professional references.Posting Deadline:August 16, 2024.
