The Long Beach School District, based on the South Shore of Nassau County, serves students from Long Beach, East Atlantic Beach, Lido Beach, Point Lookout and high school students from Island Park. A total of 3,400 students are enrolled in prekindergarten to grade 12. Position: Probationary Elementary School Librarian/Media Specialist Effective Date: September 1, 2026 Location: Lido and East Requirements: Collection development and age-appropriate book selection Knowledge of children’s literature (diverse, inclusive, and culturally responsive texts) Catalog and organize library materials Circulation management (checking books in/out, tracking inventory) Promoting reading programs and literacy initiatives (book fairs, reading challenges) Conduct read-alouds and storytelling to build early literacy skills Teaching research and information literacy skills (basic inquiry, evaluating sources) Support differentiated instruction for diverse learning needs Create a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered library environment Familiarity with library management systems (e.g., Follett Destiny or similar) Integrate digital literacy and media skills into lessons Guide students in safe and responsible internet use (digital citizenship) Use educational tools (e.g., Google Classroom, Seesaw, Epic!)
