The Long Beach School District, based on the South Shore of Nassau County, serves students from Long Beach, East Atlantic Beach, Lido Beach, Point Lookout and high school students from Island Park. The following position is anticipated to be available beginning September 1, 2026: Position: Probationary Assistant Director of Special Education Location: District-wide Qualifications: • Assist in the administration and supervision of district-wide special education programs (K—12), including special classes, related services, and inclusive settings • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and NY SED Part 200 regulations • Support the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Special Education • (CPSE) processes, including eligibility determinations, JEP development, and placement recommendations • Collaborate with building administrators, instructional staff, and related service providers to ensure implementation of IEPs with fidelity • Monitor and analyze student data to inform program development, service delivery, and progress toward goals • Provide professional development and coaching to staff on best practices in special education, differentiated instruction, and inclusive practices • Assist in the supervision and evaluation of special education staff in alignment with district frameworks (e.g., Danielson) • Support behavioral and therapeutic programming, including oversight of Functional Behavioral • Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) • Coordinate with outside agencies, service providers, and state-approved programs regarding student placement and services • Assist in budget development, grant management, and allocation of resources related to special education services • Respond to parent inquiries and concerns, facilitating collaborative and compliant resolution of issues • Participate in audits, state reviews, and reporting requirements • Assist in reviewing special education policies and procedures Support Coordinators in staffing projections • Organize and facilitate hiring of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Staff • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Pupil Personnel Certifications: * NYS School District Leader (SDL) * Valid Certification in Special Education or related Pupil Personnel areas.
