LaSalle School offers competitive compensation and benefits, excellent learning, and development opportunities.WHO YOU CAN BECOME: The teacher in the Unaccompanied Children (UC) program is a full-time, 40-hour a week, 12-month, and non-exempt hourly position that provides educational services based on UC’s level of development, education, and communication skills. They will structure curriculum primarily on the development of basic academic competencies and secondarily on English Language Training.WHAT YOU’LL DO:Conduct educational assessments to determine the academic level of the UC and any needs they may have.Work a minimum of five (5) designated classes as assigned, one preparation period and one administrative period for assignment; participate in content-area department meetings and faculty meetings.Supervise or participate in non-instructional activities, such as, but not limited to after school tutoring, homeroom duty or morning supervision duty, meetings, professional development programs, and the Open House event.Prepare required paperwork and meeting timelines, as well as produce highly professional reports.Follow guidelines in the employee handbook and program manual.Develop and update knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis in ENL education and special education instruction.Plan appropriate daily lessons and classroom activities to meet the NYS Special Education (SED) and the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) standards and to accommodate each UC’s learning styles to meet their needs and assess their progress.Communicate information about student’s educational development to identified staff.Support the agency’s mission and philosophy.WHAT YOU NEED:Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.Experienced educator/ instructor for youth with ESL and or special education needs.Competency in subject area content.Demonstrated use of sound educational practices.Must be vaccinated against Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (TDaP) within the past 10 years.Must be or above 21 years old.WHO ARE YOU:Able to provide appropriate instruction and supervision to all students as assigned.Able to promote a positive learning environment and consistent expectations and supervision in a structured classroom environment.Can demonstrate knowledge of applicable educational, trauma-informed care and other relevant best practices.Possess the physical capability to demonstrate content-related techniques and assess student skills and competency in the subject area(s).Exhibit knowledge and application of applicable NYS SED and ORR education regulations.Able to work effectively with a team of professionals to contribute positively to our therapeutic environment and support each the progress in all areas of their placement.Possess strong communication and organizational skills.Able to complete and maintain compliance with all agency and ORR training requirements.Able to keep up to date on required paperwork and documentation.WHAT WE OFFER:Start at 13 paid holidays a year, 12 sick days per year, and other leave time available dependent on the circumstances.Health/Medical Insurance - Single (LaSalle covers 100% of cost) / 2-person/family (LaSalle covers 50% of coverage).Dental Insurance - Single (LaSalle covers 100% of cost) / 2-person/family (LaSalle covers 50% of cost).Life Insurance - LaSalle covers 100% of cost at $50,000.
