John Jay High School is seeking a dynamic and innovative librarian to serve our student body of nearly 900 students in the probationary position of Library Media Specialist beginning September 1, 2026. We are looking for a candidate who is energetic, adaptable, and deeply invested in making the library a central, vibrant part of John Jay High School. Qualifications: Possess a current NYS Library Media Specialist Certification. Master’s degree in library science is preferred. Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will be committed to maintaining the library as the heart of the school, where academics and meaningful relationships flourish. This position requires an individual who is passionate about fostering a welcoming environment, supporting both students and staff, and actively engaging with the school community to promote literacy, learning and collaboration. Serve as a leader in current library practices, maintaining a vibrant, up-to-date collection and integrating emerging technologies into library services. Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum and instructional goals, including the development of deep reading, research skills, and digital literacy. Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families to encourage library use and participation in academic and extracurricular activities. Champion the library as a hub for academic support and personal growth, offering programs, workshops, and resources that enrich student life. Guide the school in navigating the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, providing expertise and resources to help educators and students use AI responsibly and effectively. Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in library materials, programming, and outreach. Manage library operations, including assistance and budgeting. Stay current with professional trends through ongoing learning, professional development and affiliations with library and educational organizations. Anticipated Start Date: September 1, 2026 Hours: Full-Time, (10 month) Salary and Benefits: $64,276 - $152,199 as per the KLDTA contract
