Benefits Assistant Location: District Office Hours: 12 months; Monday through Friday; 40 hours per week Benefits: As determined by the Board of Education per individual contract Responsibilities: Provides explanations of benefit programs and informs retirees, current enrollees, and relatives of their enrollment options. Utilizes program eligibility guidelines to maintain proper enrollment and acts as a liaison between school district and insurance carriers. Computes billing, maintains a payment ledger, and reviews billing statements against employee enrollment records to ensure accuracy. Processes vision reimbursement claims. Establishes enrollment and termination dates for new employees, maintains benefit enrollment files, and advises enrollees of COBRA benefits and costs. Researches and prepares comparative reports on new benefit plans, calculates reimbursement of Medicare payments, and keeps a list of employees eligible for benefit reimbursement. Prepares statistical reports on health care costs and enrollment and may distribute monthly. Uses computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software to perform work assignments. Qualifications: 3 years of work experience which must have included (1) year of experience where the primary function was the administration, explanation or processing of employee benefit program enrollment. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of benefits administration, principles, and practices, including municipality or school district benefit plans. Qualifications: Candidate must qualify through the Westchester County Civil Service Commission and/or pass the appropriate Civil Service examination. Consideration for transfer will be given to candidates holding the title of Benefit Assistant in permanent status in Westchester County, NY.
