Please see the job description below and reach out to Peter Reyes (preyes@jd.cnyric.org) with any questions.BUILDING PRINCIPALJOB DESCRIPTION MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES The Building Principal is the chief supervisory and administrative officer of the school and is responsible for the supervision and direction of personnel, pupils and programs.DUTIESAdministrationPlans, organizes and directs implementation of school activitiesDevelops, with the support of the Building Level Team as specified in District Shared Decision-Making Plan, short and long-range plans for the buildingSupervises the development of the master schedule and, therefore, all teaching schedulesPrepares teacher duty schedulesMaintains and submits appropriate official records and reports to the Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Education and the State Education DepartmentMakes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and program of instructionConducts faculty meetings and supervises other functions in the coordination of staff personnelReceives and reviews complaints or problems concerning individual pupils, staff or the operation of the schoolAssumes responsibility for insuring the safety of the school and its occupantsFunctions as a member of the administrative management team in planning, implementing and evaluating overall school policies and practicesPerforms such additional duties as may be delegated by the Superintendent of SchoolsProgramApplies enrollment projections to estimate number of class sections and staffing needsSupervises all educational programs within the schoolWorks to implement districtwide curriculum goals and standards in the buildingExercises leadership in curriculum and instructional improvement and provides continuing supervision of curriculum implementationSupervises and evaluates the school’s extra-curricular programSupervises the development of the testing schedule; supervises the ordering of all State testing materialsMakes recommendations for local curriculum and textbook adoptions to the Superintendent of SchoolsSubmits new courses and program changes for review to the Superintendent of SchoolsPersonnelMakes recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools on personnel matters such as recruitment, hiring, dismissal and tenureMaintains a working relationship with JD/Syracuse University Teaching Center in terms of pre-service and in-service opportunitiesAssumes responsibility for own professional growthSupervise the evaluation of all building instructional and clerical staffPrepares a staff handbookOrients newly-assigned staffAdministers all employee contracts as they relate to building functionStudentsPromotes high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline, as necessary, according due process to the rights of studentsPrepares the student handbookEnsures that school attendance records are properly maintained; supervises investigation of truancy and poor attendanceSupervises compliance with health and safety regulationsProvides for the development and supervision of after-school and extracurricular programsSchool-Community RelationsMaintains working relationships with parents, civic groups and appropriate municipal agenciesCollaborates with external agencies in support of student needsParticipates in a program of public relations to further community understanding and support for the educational programWorks with the PTG and other groups for the purpose of implementing effective parent-school communicationPrepares information about school programs to be disseminated through District and building newslettersBudget and FacilitiesPrepares building budget and authorizes school purchasesMakes recommendations to the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds and the Business Executive concerning maintenance, repair and improvement of the building, grounds and equipmentComplies with State regulations regarding extracurricular activity funds, submitting audits of these funds to the Business ExecutiveCoordinates the use of the building by outside agenciesSupervises the inventory of supplies and equipmentAUTHORITYThe Building Principal reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools, has a staff relationship with District administrators, and a line relationship with all staff members assigned to the building.
