Position Overview: The Island Park UFSD is seeking a dynamic and experienced Elementary School Principal to lead the Francis X. Hegarty Elementary School. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong background in literacy instruction, particularly in early literacy. As the instructional leader, the principal will ensure high-quality instruction, foster a positive and productive learning environment, and support the overall well-being of students and staff.Key Responsibilities:· Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to the instructional program and daily operations of the elementary school.· Ensure the effective implementation of early literacy programs, grounded in the Science of Reading Research, to support student literacy development from pre-kindergarten through grade 4.· Supervise and evaluate instructional practices to ensure high standards of teaching and learning, particularly in literacy.· Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive school climate that promotes student success and staff collaboration.· Collaborate with staff, families, and community members to support student achievement and social-emotional well-being.· Develop and implement school goals and initiatives in alignment with the district’s strategic plan, with a focus on improving literacy outcomes.· Manage school resources effectively, including staffing, budget, and facilities.· Serve as a liaison between the district office and the school, communicating effectively with all stakeholders.Qualifications:· NYS Certification as a School Building Leader or School Administrator (SBL or SAS).· Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a school building leader, with a strong track record of leadership in an elementary school setting.· An educational leader well-versed in elementary curriculum and best practices.· Strong literacy background with proven success in implementing early literacy programs and improving student reading outcomes and familiarity with the Science of Reading Research.· Adaptability and the ability to wear multiple hats involved in various aspects of school operations.· Knowledge of character education and fostering citizenship in elementary students.· Familiarity with current educational trends, including technology to enhance teaching and learning, culturally responsive teaching, innovative instructional practices, and inclusive education.· Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams, promote student achievement, and enhance school culture.· Visible leader that can inspire excellence in students, faculty and staff.· Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.· Experience with data-driven decision-making and curriculum implementation.
