Library Media Specialist - MS/HS (Probationary), 1.0 FTE – 2026–2027 School YearQualifications: New York State School Library Media Specialist CertificationSummary: The library media specialist supports the school’s instructional program through the knowledge of library systems and media integration. Responsibilities:Provides library and media materials to students and teachers through a systematically developed collection of resourcesPlans cooperatively with teachers to incorporate information skills into the classroom curriculum and to assist teachers in developing resource based units and activitiesProvides leadership in assessing, evaluating and implementing information and instructional technologiesRecommends student-level literature to teachersTakes a leadership role in promoting and demonstrating the use of new technologies and media in the schoolCreates access to the library media center collection through the management of an accurate and efficient organization and retrieval systemAssists students in identifying, locating and interpreting information housed in and outside the library media centerOffers assistance to teachers in the selection and purchase of instructional materials and in the use of resourcesCreates opportunities for access to the library media center throughout the school dayManages the library media facility in a manner that encourages accessInforms teachers, students, parents and administrators of new materials, equipment and servicesManages selection and ordering of materials through a process involving teacher inputDevelops the budget for library media resourcesCommunicates library media program needs to the building principalParticipates in department, grade-level, school and district curriculum development and assessment projects as neededRemains current with instructional technologyCreates an environment where literature and language is valuedModels a wide variety of teaching methods and media options for teachers and studentsProvides instructionEncourages students to read for pleasure and motivates their reading through a variety of methodsOther duties as assignedOther Qualifications: Prioritizes responsibilities and exhibits a high level of organizationDemonstrates excellent decision making skillsExhibits positive demeanor, sense of humor and compassionDemonstrates reflective practice and continuous improvementDemonstrates motivation and good work ethicAbides by school and District policiesExhibits excellent communication skillsExhibits excellent attendance recordDemonstrates a high level of ethical behaviorMust maintain NYS teacher certification
