Summary: The School Guidance Counselor is responsible for implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and social-emotional development of all students. 1 This includes providing individual and group counseling, facilitating classroom guidance lessons, collaborating with staff and parents, and connecting students and families with community resources. The counselor advocates for student success, promotes a positive school climate, and helps students navigate challenges and plan for their futures.Responsibilities:• Student Support: Provide counseling on academics, career planning, personal development, and resolving challenges.• Academic Guidance: Assist students in selecting courses, meeting graduation requirements, and planning for post-secondary education or careers.• College and Career Readiness: Help students with college applications, financial aid, and post-graduation transitions.• Family Collaboration: Partner with families to support student success, including during parent-teacher conferences and individual meetings.• Career Development: Work with students on career exploration and create transition plans for life after school.• Other duties as assignedOther Qualifications:• Prioritizes responsibilities and exhibits a high level of organization• Demonstrates excellent decision-making skills• Exhibits positive demeanor, sense of humor and compassion • Demonstrates reflective practice and continuous improvement • Demonstrates motivation and good work ethic• Abides by school and District policies• Exhibits excellent communication skills• Exhibits excellent attendance record• Demonstrates a high level of ethical behavior• Must maintain NYS certification
