Special Education Teacher - MS - F/T probationaryQualifications: Appropriate NYS CertificationSummary: The special education teacher is knowledgeable about student development and instruction of special needs students. The special education teacher may be required to work in a variety of school settings including self-contained, small group or other instructional models representing the continuation of services for special needs students. Responsibilities:Prepares and provides exemplary lessons for a wide range of student needs and/or abilitiesCollaborates with general education and special education teachers, CSE chairperson, school psychologist, social workers or outside support personnel to provide optimal programming or studentsMeets with parents to provide information regarding student progressParticipates in school wide events and encourages student participation in eventsProvides in class instructional support to teachers for special needs students as requiredParticipates in CSE meetings or outside visitations as requiredAssesses student progress and communicates resultsServes as a resource to general education teachersParticipates in ongoing professional developmentRemains current regarding laws and regulations related to special needs studentsCompletes all testing, evaluations and reports in a timely mannerServes as the representative at CSE meetings for all students on their caseloadServes as case manager as assigned by PPS/building administratorOther duties as assigned Other Qualifications: Prioritizes responsibilities and exhibits a high level of organizationDemonstrates excellent decision-making skillsExhibits positive demeanor, sense of humor and compassionDemonstrates reflective practice and continuous improvementDemonstrates motivation and good work ethicAbides by school and District policiesExhibits excellent communication skillsExhibits excellent attendance recordDemonstrates a high level of ethical behaviorMust maintain NYS teacher certification
