Irvington UFSD is seeking a dynamic and passionate high school art teacher who is New York State certified to teach grades 9-12. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in design thinking and project-based learning, with preference given to candidates who are already trained to teach Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses. In addition to traditional art courses, IHS offers classes in Physical Modeling, Computer-Aided Design, and 3D Printing. The candidate should possess a growth mindset and be open to professional development opportunities. Irvington UFSD is committed to fostering a welcoming and affirming environment for candidates from all backgrounds.Responsibilities:Create and implement an engaging and innovative art curriculum that aligns with New York State standards for grades 9-12.Provide instruction in various art mediums, techniques, and concepts to develop students' artistic skills and creativity.Incorporate design thinking and project-based learning methodologies into art lessons to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support their artistic growth.Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and respect for diverse perspectives.Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual students, including those with varying levels of artistic ability and learning styles.Utilize technology effectively to enhance art instruction and student engagement.Attend professional development sessions and workshops to expand teaching skills and stay current with trends in art education.Qualifications:Possession of New York State certification in Art Education for grades 9-12.Bachelor's degree in Art Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.Proven experience and expertise in design thinking and project-based learning methodologies.Familiarity with Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses and training is highly desirable, as is proficiency with traditional architectural drawing and hand drafting skillsProficiency in Physical Modeling, Computer-Aided Design, and 3D Printing is preferred.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and parents.Ability to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment for students from diverse backgrounds.Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and willingness to participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.If you are a passionate and dedicated art educator with a deep commitment to design thinking, project-based learning, and a desire to create a welcoming and affirming environment, we encourage you to apply for this position.
