The Hewlett-Woodmere Public School District is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Part-Time Reading Teacher at Franklin Early Childhood Center, a school serving students in Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade. The position begins August 26, 2026. The successful candidate will provide targeted reading instruction through a Response to Intervention (RTI) model while partnering closely with classroom teachers to strengthen literacy instruction across all learning environments. This position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about the Science of Reading, skilled in data-driven instruction, and committed to ensuring all students develop strong foundational literacy skills. The Reading Teacher will deliver small-group and individualized instruction, collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff, analyze student performance data, and help implement evidence-based literacy practices that support student growth and achievement. Key Responsibilities: Provide targeted reading intervention services to students through an RTI/MTSS model Assess student literacy needs and use data to develop and implement instructional plans Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on ongoing assessment results Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and administrators to support student growth Model evidence-based literacy practices and provide instructional support within classrooms Support the implementation of district literacy initiatives and curriculum programs Maintain accurate records of student progress and intervention outcomes Communicate effectively with families and school staff regarding student growth and achievement Qualifications: New York State (NYS) Literacy Specialist Certification (B-6) Preferred Experience: Experience implementing structured literacy practices aligned with the Science of Reading Familiarity with instructional programs including UFLI Foundations, Heggerty, and Advancing Literacy’s Reading and Writing Units of Study Experience utilizing decodable texts to support foundational reading development Knowledge of phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension instruction Experience providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions within an RTI/MTSS framework Familiarity with NWEA MAP Growth assessments and using data to identify student needs, monitor progress, and drive instructional decisions Experience collaborating with classroom teachers to support core literacy instruction and student achievement Experience coaching, modeling, or supporting best practices in literacy instruction within general education classrooms Knowledge of early childhood and elementary literacy development, particularly in grades K through 1 Work Schedule & Compensation: This is a full-year position Compensation in accordance with contractual pay scale Application Process: Interested candidates should submit the following: Cover Letter Resume Copy of NYS Certifications 3 References
