Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools (HWPS) is located on the south shore of Long Island and is consistently ranked as one of the highest performing Districts on both state and national levels. The District educates approximately 2800 Pre-K through 12th grade students across five schools. HWPS is dedicated to providing all students with enriching and exciting educational experiences in caring, student-centered environments. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to serve as the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Personnel. Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools, the successful candidate will provide leadership and strategic vision for budgeting, financial management, business operations, and personnel management. Provides supervision to administrators responsible for financial, accounting operations, and personnel management. Advances School District priorities as identified in the School District Strategic Plan. Required qualifications: NYSED certification in administration (SDA/SDBL). Preferred qualifications: Extensive finance, accounting, and personnel management background; and central office administrative experience. Knowledge of State and Federal law pertaining to areas of school finance, business, personnel, and Civil Service regulations. Key Responsibilities:Assumes responsibility for budget development and long-range financial and human resources planning, and develops budget and recruitment timetables in accordance with legal and local requirements.Administers budget and recommends transfers between budget categories, authorizes all expenditure requests, and monitors expenditures.Analyzes budget expenditures and revenues to provide information and direction in meeting the District’s educational goals in the most effective manner.Supervises the preparation of bid specifications, supervises the bidding process, analyzes bids, and prepares recommendations to Superintendent.Serves as a financial and budgetary liaison to the Board’s negotiating team.Prepares financial data necessary as background for contract negotiations with District employees.Provides safeguards for the custody of public funds and makes complete and accurate reports to the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, and various governmental agencies.Supervises the administration of the Workers Compensation functions for District personnel.Supervises all insurance and risk management matters.Supervises capital projects, including need assessments, budget planning, bidding, state reporting, supervision, and management of the fund accounting.Supervises the annual financial auditing process of the District and files the necessary reports to the State on a timely basis.Represents the District at all business meetings and maintains working relationships with governmental agencies, community organizations, and businesses.Keeps abreast of legislative issues at all levels of government that may affect the financial standing of the District and provide such information as necessary to the Superintendent and Board of Education.Supervises the District’s transportation program.Supervises the planning and operations of Human Resources Department in recruitment, hiring, certification, and promotion of instructional and support staff.Serves as a member of the District’s Leadership Team and represents the District as required.Performs additional duties delegated by the Superintendent of Schools.
