DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position is responsible for the efficient and high quality performance of a variety of plumbing, HVAC and related jobs requiring a good knowledge of these trades. Specific instructions are received regarding tasks to perform and sometimes how to perform them. Immediate supervision may be exercised over the work of a laborer or maintenance worker. Does related work as required. Works directly with a Head Plumber.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the standard practices, processes and materials of plumbing, HVAC, steam fitting and pipe fitting trades; good knowledge of mechanical drawing and local plumbing laws and regulations; ability to work from plans, sketches, specifications, blue prints, oral and written instructions; dependability; pleasant personality in dealing with the public and fellow employees; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: (a) Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and completion of an apprenticeship program with the Pipefitter’s union and two (2) years of full-time paid experience performing duties in the plumbing trade; OR (b) Graduation from a New York State registered or regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in a plumbing field and eight (8) of full-time paid experience performing duties in the plumbing trade; OR (c) Graduation from high school or completion of a high school equivalency diploma and completion of a certificate program in a plumbing field and nine (9) years of full time paid experience performing duties in the plumbing trade; OR (d) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and ten (10) years of full-time paid experience performing duties in the plumbing trade. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously throughout the duration of employment.This position is a 12-month full-time position in the Support Staff Association. Includes full health benefits, paid vacation, personal and sick time off. Must meet Civil Service requirements.
