Position Overview Herricks Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and visionary Special Education Chairperson for Herricks Middle School. The individual will play a critical role in monitoring and continuously improving Special Education and Student Support Services within Herricks Middle School, and as a collective part of the Pupil Service administrative team, across the district as well . We view our Pupil Services department as a cornerstone in achieving our Portrait of a Graduate, ensuring that all students—including those with disabilities—develop the essential skills of Collaboration, Communication, Confidence, Compassion, Creative Innovation, and Critical Thinking. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Program Improvement Provide leadership and support in establishing new programs and developing an improved understanding of existing initiatives. Recommend policies and programs essential to the needs of children with disabilities. Encourage the integration of special education and general education to foster an inclusive environment. Assist in the planning and implementation of District initiatives, ensuring alignment with the Herricks Strategic Plan of Action. Chair our Herricks Middle School Committee on Special Education meetings Support our testing accommodations implementation school wide Instructional & Staff Development Utilize knowledge of curriculum and staff development to support Deep Learning—ensuring students have the time, foundational tools, and environment to persevere through challenges Oversee teacher supervision and employment practices to maintain high instructional standards. Provide timely, effective, and supportive evaluative feedback to staff throughout the learning process. Administrative & Community Liaison Assist in the preparation of school policies related to special education and Pupil Personnel Services. Serve as a liaison between the District and federal, state, and local agencies. Manage education grant writing and Title program administration. Work effectively with all segments of the school community, including staff, parents, pupils, and community groups, to build a shared Vision of a Learner. Qualifications Appropriate New York State Administrative Certification. Extensive knowledge of special education regulations, staff development, and grant administration. Proven ability to foster an environment that supports exploration, learning from failure, and a growth mindset.
