Herricks Public Schools, a vibrant Community of Learners, is seeking a student-centered, dynamic, and highly qualified Leave Replacement High School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher for the Fall semester (September - January) of the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will have deep familiarity with the New York State Next Generation ELA Learning Standards and proven success preparing students for the rigorous NYS Regents Examination in English Language Arts. Key Responsibilities Curriculum & Instruction: Design and implement rigorous, engaging lesson plans for high school ELA classes aligned with the New York State Next Generation ELA Learning Standards. Regents Preparation: Scaffold instruction to build foundational skills in textual analysis, argument-based writing, and literary synthesis to prepare students directly for the NYS ELA Regents Exam. Targeted Learning & Assessment: Establish clear, student-facing learning targets and success criteria. Culturally Responsive-Sustaining (CR-S) Education: Embed Principle 1 of the NYS CR-S Framework by maintaining a welcoming, affirming, and student-centered classroom environment that utilizes restorative practices. Digital Integration: Integrate technology and instructional tools meaningfully into assignments to foster digital literacy and thoughtfully explore the future of AI in instruction. Qualifications Required Certification: Valid New York State Certification in English Language Arts (Grades 7-12). Academic Background: Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Curriculum Knowledge: Deep familiarity with the NYS Next Generation ELA standards, standard-based assessment techniques, and Regents examination criteria. Classroom Culture: Demonstrated ability to build trust and high-engagement learning environments centered on student wellness, equity, and inclusion.
