Herricks Public Schools is seeking a visionary and collaborative Elementary Librarian to enhance the experience for learners in our Searingtown community. Our mission is to promote intellectual curiosity, value diversity, and foster personal development. The successful candidate will be a "North Star" for our students, guiding them through the 21st century by integrating our Portrait of a Graduate (POG) competencies—the 6Cs—into the library program. Key Duties & Responsibilities Instructional Leadership: Develop and deliver a curriculum that teaches students to effectively find, evaluate, and use information, with a strong focus on information literacy. Literacy Promotion: Cultivate a lifelong love of reading through story times, literature appreciation, and maintaining an up-to-date, diverse collection. Technology Integration: oversee the school library's digital resources and instruct students on the ethical use of library technology, databases, and research tools. Collaboration: Work closely with faculty to support classroom curriculum and integrate library resources into diverse subject areas. Collection Management: Catalog, organize, and maintain both print and digital inventory using systems such as Follett Destiny. Safe Learning Environment: Create an inviting, inclusive, and student-centered library space that reflects our commitment to restorative practices. Alignment with Herricks District Goals The Elementary Librarian will play a vital role in advancing our District Goals: Portrait of a Graduate: Embed the 6Cs—Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creative Innovation, Compassion, and Confidence—into library lessons and assessments. Digital Future: Support the meaningful integration of instructional technology and explore the role of Artificial Intelligence in enhancing student learning. Culture & Community: Actively engage with students and families to ensure the library is a hub for the school community. Culturally Responsive Framework: Maintain a "Welcoming & Affirming Environment" by selecting materials that reflect the cultural and social landscapes of all students.
