Herricks Public Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Physical Education teacher to join our dynamic team as a full year leave replacement for the 2025/2026 school year. Our Portrait of a Graduate serves as our "North Star," guiding us in developing students who are prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.Develop and Implement Curriculum: Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that promote physical literacy, health-related fitness, and social-emotional skills, adhering to New York State Physical Education Standards.Promote Physical Fitness and Activity: Lead a variety of physical activities, including team sports, individual sports, dance, and fitness exercises, to develop students' motor skills, strength, endurance, coordination, and flexibility.Foster a Positive Learning Environment: Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement, motivation, and participation, accommodating diverse learning styles and abilities, including students with disabilities or special needs.Assess Student Progress: Monitor and evaluate student performance and progress in physical abilities and understanding of fitness concepts, providing constructive feedback to help students improve.Educate on Health and Wellness: Teach students about healthy lifestyles, nutrition, injury prevention, safety practices, stress management, and the benefits of lifelong physical activity.Manage Equipment and Facilities: Ensure proper use, maintenance, and inventory of physical education equipment and maintain a safe and organized gymnasium or outdoor learning space.Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work collaboratively with other teachers, school staff, parents, and guardians to support student success, address student needs, and integrate physical education with other subjects.Maintain Professional Standards: Adhere to ethical and legal guidelines, including duty of care, confidentiality, and professional boundaries, and participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices.Implement Classroom Management: Employ effective classroom management strategies to support a disciplined, respectful, and productive learning environment.Supervise Extracurricular Activities: Potentially organize and supervise intramural sports, after-school fitness clubs, or coach school athletic teams, contributing to the broader school community.
