Herricks Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated NYS Special Education Teacher for an anticipated, full-time, tenure-track position at Herricks High School.This position is within our Vocational Independence Program (VIP) 8:1:1 Special Class, which serves students in a range from 12-21 who typically participate in the New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA). The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping students achieve their full potential and be a collaborative member of our school community.Key Responsibilities:Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).Provide direct instruction and support within the VIP 8:1:1 Special Class.Develop and implement vocational training and transition plans for students aged 15 and up. Utilize a whole language approach to support students' receptive and expressive communication skills.Work with students who use augmentative communication devices.Collaborate with parents, staff, and related service providers to support student success.Qualifications:Valid New York State Teacher Certification in Students with Disabilities/Special Education.Experience working with students with significant special needs is preferred.Knowledge of the NYSAA preferred.Strong organizational and communication skills.
