Herricks Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Special Education Chairperson to provide leadership and oversight for our special education programs and services. The Chairperson will play a critical role in ensuring that students with disabilities receive a high-quality, inclusive education that aligns with the district's mission and the Herricks Compact. This leader will foster collaboration, communication, and a culture of compassion and respect among staff, students, and families.Collaboration and Communication: Foster strong collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, and external agencies. Ensure effective communication and teamwork to support student success.IEP Development and Compliance: Oversee the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.Student Support and Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities and ensure the provision of appropriate accommodations and support services.Professional Development: Provide professional development and support to special education staff, promoting innovative and effective instructional practices.Data Analysis and Assessment: Utilize data and assessment to inform program development and improve student outcomes.Resource Management: Manage special education resources effectively and efficiently.Community Engagement: Engage with the community to build understanding and support for special education programs.Qualifications:Valid New York State Certification in Special Education.Master's degree in Special Education or related field.Administrative or leadership certification/experience preferred.Minimum of 5 years of special education teaching experience.Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.Commitment to the Herricks Public Schools mission, vision, and core values.Preferred Skills and Abilities:Experience with implementing the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).Knowledge of assistive technology and its applications in special education.Experience in conflict resolution and advocacy.Ability to foster creative innovation and critical thinking among staff.Demonstrated ability to promote compassion, confidence, and collaboration.
